Landscaped family garden incorporating adult relaxation and safe play area

Towards the end of last summer we created a fabulous family friendly garden. The client was lucky enough to have a really big space as our starting canvas and once we had cleared and prepared the ground we were able to make our mark.

A single swerving gravel path was prepared, gliding its way from the rear of the house. The central area of the garden was given to a large curved lawn. We made a feature of an existing Acer tree by encircling it with cobble edged gravel.

Our client wanted a safe play area for children. We dedicated the far right hand corner of the garden and soft play bark was put down as bedding. The play area is independent from the rest of the garden and is screened from the lawn by a row of railway sleepers stacked vertically and sawn at different lengths to add interest and depth. The barked area is self contained and safe but can also be overlooked from the adult area.

A main entertaining and relaxation area was positioned at the rear of the garden to take advantage of the late summer sun. We constructed a large stone paving area, enclosed by an attractive stone built wall including gentle steps upward from the snaking gravel path. A purpose built pergola provides shade should the sun become too strong.

The garden was completed with appropriate planting of shrubs in the new borders.
